Phytomega

Phytomega®120 softgels
Heart Health Supplement
What Makes It Different?
Phytomega is an excellent healthy-heart supplement that helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by combining plant phytosterols and omega-3 fatty acids with CoQ10 and alpha lipoic acid to naturally reduce cholesterol levels for a healthier heart and life.†‡
Why Is That Important?
The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) reported that the combination of eating a high-fiber diet and supplementing with phytosterols is just as effective at lowering cholesterol as a popular alternative—without the side effects. In fact, independent clinical studies show phytosterols may help reduce cholesterol by up to 29%! In addition, independent clinical studies also show omega-3s may help reduce triglyceride levels by up to 26%!†‡
Coenzyme Q10 (more commonly known as just CoQ10) is key component in the cell’s ability to generate energy. Ninety-five percent of the human body’s energy is generated this way. Those organs with the highest energy requirements—such as the heart and the liver—have the highest CoQ10 concentrations.
Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a fatty acid found naturally inside every cell in the body. It’s needed by the body to produce the energy for our body’s normal functions. It is believed that alpha lipoic acid has the ability to recycle antioxidants such as vitamin C and glutathione after they have been used up. Alpha lipoic acid also increases the formation of glutathione.
It Works Because…
Phytosterols are ingredients found naturally in plants that have a chemical structure similar to cholesterol. They are so similar, in fact, that it is difficult for our bodies to distinguish the two. As a result, phytosterols can take the place of cholesterol during digestion and help safely block cholesterol absorption in the intestine, so it doesn’t enter the bloodstream. Unfortunately, phytosterols are not easily absorbed on their own and need to be consumed with fat. That’s where omega-3s come in. Omega-3s not only help enhance the solubility of phytosterols without the downsides associated with typical fats, they have also been shown to help maintain healthy triglyceride levels, which support optimal heart health (triglycerides are a type of blood fat). The result is lower cholesterol and a healthier cardiovascular system—naturally. †‡ Research on phytosterols and omega-3s has been published in multiple prestigious publications, including:
• Journal of the American Medical Association, 2003 • American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2000 • GISSI Study, 2002 • Circulation, 2001In the body, CoQ10 levels tend to fall as we age, Phytomega helps maintain CoQ10 levels necessary for proper organ function, while alpha lipoic acid helps fight the damaging effects of free radicals.*
† Foods and supplements containing at least .65 g per serving of plant sterol esters, eaten twice a day with meals for a daily intake of at least 1.3 g, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease. A daily dose of Phytomega (4 softgels) supplies 2.0g of plant sterol esters.
‡Supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. One serving of Phytomega provides 165 mg of EPA and 110 mg of DHA omega-3 fatty acids.
