MONONUCLEOSIS

The presence of fatigue, fever, sore throat, and enlarged lymph nodes signifies the illness known as "Mono," which is caused by the EpsteinBarr virus. About 50% of children contract the virus before the age of five and have mild or no symptoms. Recovery is rapid. When infection occurs in young adults, an immune system battle results. Damage is done to human lymphocytes, the spleen, and the liver. Relapses are common if activity is resumed too soon. Many high school and college students miss school because of not heeding the necessary "rest and recover" treatment. No medicines are known to treat this illness.
The incubation time of the virus is not fully known, but one week to two months is common. The illness can take up to three months to run its course. Complications may occur if it is not properly treated. "Mono" can go on to cause seizures, meningitis, psychosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, respiratory disease, jaundice, and hepatitis. Blood testing can detect past infections for several years after the illness has passed.
    * Complete bed rest for the first several weeks is often necessary to ease symptoms and prevent complications. Mild activity with mid-day rest periods is recommended for the first 4 to 6 weeks. Drink 2 to 6 cups of Melaleuca Herbal Tea each day. Take the Vitality Pack with Oligofructose Complex, CellWise, ProVex and/or ProVex-Plus with juice or broth for the first 2 to 3 weeks, then with meals. Breathe T36-C5 enriched steam vapor to prevent respiratory complications. Thirty minute hot baths, with 1 oz of Sol-U-Mel and 1 oz of Renew Bath Oil, are helpful in the absence of a fever. Do not do heavy lifting, bending at the waist, or jumping for 3 months, as permanent damage to the liver or spleen may occur.
