Heartburn, also known as acid indigestion, is characterized by a burning sensation in the upper chest. It occurs after eating, bending over, or lying down. Normally the lower esophageal sphincter (a muscular valve) opens just to allow food to pass into the stomach, however when it opens too often or does not close tightly enough, heartburn is experienced because the stomach acids seep into the esophagus.
* Heartburn relief can be achieved through lifestyle changes. Eat dinner earlier; wait at least two to three hours before going to bed after eating. Eat smaller meals more often during the day. If you are overweight, losing weight may have a significant effect on your heartburn. Keep a diet diary/heartburn log to identify your trigger foods.
Upon experiencing heartburn pain, take
Calmicid as directed.
